WRENCH meets Rocket Science!, Eight years after adopting WRENCH on the GSLV MK3, ISRO has now decided to roll it out across all key space programs.
ISRO to use WRENCH on all key upcoming projects
ISRO has announced that WRENCH will be their primary project information management technology on all its ongoing and future space programs in the immediate future. This includes Launch Vehicle programs (PSLV, GSLV, HSP etc.) as well as India's first-ever Human Space Flight program. The decision to deploy WRENCH so comprehensively was made by ISRO after extensive evaluation over an 8-year period.
The complete rollout of WRENCH on the major Launch Vehicle projects is planned to be completed in 16 weeks. ISRO has also decided to use WRENCH on past projects as a knowledge management tool to preserve and reuse data effectively. On the Human Space Flight Mission program WRENCH will be deployed over multiple locations and will allow (for the first time) all the various ISRO offices/locations to work concurrently in real-time as well as be able to collaborate in real time with vendors and third parties.
ISRO's partnership with WRENCH began in 2002 with the GSLV-Mark3. The first WRENCH implementation was declared live by then Chairman Dr. Madhavan Nair and since then WRENCH has been deployed on several GSLV-Mark3 subsystems including the S200, C25 etc., and in other major ISRO division like Composite, MED etc. In 2009 WRENCH was deployed in the top-security and highly sensitive Cyrogenic project (Semi-Cryo)
These are the ISRO locations where WRENCH will be deployed in 2011: VSSC (Trivandrum) LPSC (Valiamala, Mahindragiri), SHAR (Shriharikotta), SAK (Ahmedabad) and ISAC (Bangalore). The deployments will be done in a phased manner and will include the setting up of an independent secure network for online collaboration with vendors and third parties.
